The owner of every business is the compass; he decides the direction the company will take. One man who puts this into practice every day is Sibusiso Mncwabe of Marketing Well, a marketing and exhibition company.
Business leaders should focus on more than just making money. Their moral standards and knowledge or lack thereof will affect or infect every business decision they make.
That is why a business is not a get-rich-quick scheme, says Sibusiso. It is a journey. When he is deciding on a direction to take, he asks himself: “What are you after?” Sibusiso believes in working hard; he understands the value of patience and setting high standards for himself and his business.
Marketing Well began in 2015 to conceptualise, design, build, manage, dismantle and store exhibition stands. The company also supplies branded material, such as wall and pull-up banners, promotional gifts and shopfront branding.
A significant portion of time is spent on planning. Every project is important and should exceed the client’s expectations. This goal to over-deliver on customers’ expectations has caused Marketing Well to grow in leaps and bounds in the last four years – an impressive feat considering they only use word-of-mouth advertising and social media. That’s many, very, happy customers who are so impressed with the standard of work that they refer the company to their family, friends and colleagues.
And now Sibusiso wants to pay it forward: “The township in which I grew up has few skilled people. We source temporary workers from the community, thereby giving them valuable skills.”
We asked him to share four tips for other business leaders:
Sibusiso’s Top 4 tips
- Benchmarking is key.
- Do your research. Learn about the legal aspects, HR and finance.
- Market your company well: talk to people and be active on social media.
- Treat your staff with respect.
Sibusiso is adamant his team of eight staff has played a vital part in the success of the business. Their high work ethic and expertise has ensured the business runs smoothly, he said.
We asked him what sets him apart from similar businesses in the industry. “Marketing Well listens to its clients. And the company always has a completion attitude – get the best job completed on time!”
However, things don’t always go according to plan. There will always be stress when you are running a business, Sibusiso said. “I make a list of things to do. When I am under pressure, I take a breath and think about the pros and cons of my next move.”
We have no doubt that Sibusiso’s level-headed approach to business will steer Marketing Well in the right direction and enable it to become an industry leader in the design and construction of exhibition stands.
