The Time is Now!

By Catherine Wijnberg

As we welcome in 2017 and look forward to the months ahead, I think it would be fair to say that the general sentiment out there is how terrible 2016 was. Much of this is of course sheer fiction, perpetrated by the media industry and fueled by social media – creating a set of ‘spectacles’ placed over your eyes that makes it easy to see everything in this negative manner.

I personally believe that most years offer an equal amount of good and bad, highs and lows, ups and downs. Births and deaths, divorces and marriages both come with pain and pleasure. There are for example, many blessings in family gatherings, and often an equal amount of pain and discomfort!

So, let me share with you some wisdom from a wonderfully transformative book by Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now. I read this over the Christmas period and found it to be a gift, in the true sense of the word!

His message is that we cannot feel pain or fear when we are focused on this very moment – ‘the Now’. Many of us are anything but ‘present’, and have a tendency to regurgitate bad news from our past with almost religious fervor. Similarly, we can waste years of our lives creating a fearful imaginary future, which prevents us from moving forward.

If you are stuck in an angry cycle of re-living the past, or paralysed by fear of the future take a pause now to bring your attention to this exact moment in time. The Now. In this moment, experience the fullness of all blessings in your life and in the words of Eckhart Tolle “realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.”

Now that you are focused, I trust you will enjoy the selection of transformative, inspirational and thought-provoking articles in this first edition of The Catalyst for 2017. From Anton Ressel’s straight-talking piece on taking an honest look at whether your business truly works for you, to Anna Vital’s contribution on investing in yourself to grow your business, to a punchy video on a local winemaker that is shaking things up, we hope you enjoy this blend of inspiration, innovation and motivation as 2017 shakes her tail feathers and gets ready to strut.

With love and kindness,

  1. Catherine – Actually I made a mistake – am reading The Art of Power by Thich Nhat HAnh (pretty close). Similar message and advice, clear and accessible. See ttp://

    • Thank you for the recommendation, Hugh. I have often found that a good book can have an immense impact in one’s life! It’s all about putting what you read into action.

  2. Hi Catherine
