Vusi Thembekwayo has been called many things – a maverick, leadership genius, self-made millionaire and a great public speaker. His rap sheet is impressively long and it seems to be getting longer as he continues to achieve anything he sets his mind to.
Vusi was born in Johannesburg and didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in his mouth – life was not easy. After he completed his secondary education he enrolled at university but had to drop out due to financial constraints.
However, Vusi had a certain talent that would be the start of his career – public speaking. At the age of seventeen he was ranked as one of the best motivational speakers on the African continent. Don’t believe us? Watch Vusi’s TEDTalks episode on The Big Lie of Small Business – you won’t be disappointed.
Vusi’s book Business and Life Lessons From a Black Dragon takes you through his start, his struggles, his triumphs and what it takes to be a maverick and a successful business person. Vusi isn’t afraid to say things as they are. There are no sugar coating or soft let-downs because that is not how life is – and that’s not how you get to where you want to be.
At 25 he ran a R400mn division in a R17bn multi-national and today he is one of the youngest directors of a listed company and the CEO of a boutique investment and advisory firm. Vusi doesn’t just do business, he lives it.
