Oh, my hat, it’s nearly May! Where did the year go?
If you, like me woke up with a shock to realise that 2019 is already on its slippery slope to December, then this issue is for you.
As our world moves faster and faster it can be difficult to create and maintain balance. Life can quickly become a confusing mess of busyness with little of the real progress we dream of.
Luckily though there are simple tools to cut through this distraction, like Robin Sharma’s book The 5am Club. The book is reviewed in this edition and I personally have completed ten days of this simple, but powerful strategy.
His philosophy is that every day is a chance to restart and improve on the previous days’ action.
His fuel for this is a simple (but not easy!) daily willpower challenge in the form of a 5am waking ritual – followed by 20 minutes of exercise (to raise energy levels), 20 minutes of contemplation (to access your creative genius), and 20 minutes of learning (to ensure the continual growth needed to maintain mastery of your field).
The impact of the daily routine for me has been increased focus, greater productivity and a beautiful re-kindling of self-belief.
What I found really profound is that his tools are free. His reason for this is that ‘the world needs more leaders’ – such a pleasure in a world filled with self-serving people selling snake-oil.
This issue of Catalyst also looks at an entrepreneur, Mbulelo Nquru, who was forced to close his business because it wasn’t performing and Terrena Rathanlall talks about how she effectively learned how to deal with stress and anxiety. If you need to set goals for your business or reassess the goals you have set then you’re in luck because we’re sharing our business goal setting tool with you.
Lastly, the Absa Business Day Supplier Development Awards are around the corner and we caught up with Mahlatsi Mashile of Reapso, the winner of the 2018 Small Supplier Award to find out just what Massmart did for her small business.
May is going to be awesome!
